With oil reserves being found in the country and expats settling for job purposes, availability of branded products in Azerbaijan has increased in dramatic proportions over the last centuries. Prices of these products are not very expensive, but one needs to be careful against fake brands. For any foreign tourist, the country’s arts and crafts section holds the maximum attraction. In various cities of Azerbaijan, there are streets that sell handicrafts, silks, and other artefacts local to the city.

Tohuma Jorab are knitted socks traditional to Azerbaijan. Made by women of the Talish community, they come in bright colours and are to be worn in the winter season. Prices vary according to the length of the socks.

Every tourist who visits Lankaran doesn’t forget to buy the traditional “Chay” or tea, a speciality of the city. The city produces the best tea in the country and can be bought as a gift for relatives and friends.

Every city in Azerbaijan has it’s own unique bazaar and Sheki is no exception. You will find food, handicrafts, spices, etc at the Bazaar. If you are not from Azerbaijan, tag along an Azerbaijani friend so that you can bargain with the shopkeepers for a more favourable price.

At the Bazaar, Caravansarai and tourist areas and at the Handicraft Association headquarters you will be able to find many Shebke or stained glass items along with Persian carpets, copper and iron articles and musical instruments.

  • Silk

Sheki lies along the Silk Road route and has a flourishing silk industry for many years. You can buy a variety of silk items such as scarves known as kalagayi. These scarves are available at shops, bazaars and at Caravansarai.
