Azerbaijan has a long history in cinema with its first silent movie released on August 2, 1898. Among the first released documentaries were names like "Fire of the Bibi Heybat Oil Gusher" and “Festival in City Park”. In 1915 came Azerbaijan’s first feature film “The Reign of Oil and Millions”. Most of the movies or documentaries that are made in Azerbaijan are related to real issues of illiteracy, rights of women, and their struggle for freedom from USSR and in general the daily life of Azerbaijani people. Not many cinemas are produced in recent years, but those that are; get their respect at known film festivals around the world.
